Year 6
Year 6 students explored the work of the artist Hundertwasser.
His landscape paintings are bright, colourful and are defined by contour lines.
Hundertwasser inspired landscapes
Year 4
Year 4 studied the work of Kandinsky and Abstract Art, learning how art, music and emotion can be intrinsically linked.
Students produced abstract outcomes with geometric and organic forms inspired by Kandinsky’s artwork.
Here they have explored different art materials to respond to the theme of Extreme Weather, painting hurricanes, Tornadoes, and Volcano eruptions similar to the artist Nick Roland.
Responses to 'extreme weather'.
Students were inspired by the art of Henri Rousseau, painting their own rainforest landscapes responding to the story Tin Forest by Helen Ward.
Responses to the book The Tin Forest in the style of Rousseau.
Year 3
Students studied the work of artist Henri Matisse, specifically looking at his paper-collages (cut-outs) of the circus. They prepared their own paper with paint, selected and cut out circus motifs, whilst demonstrating their understanding of colour theory and complimentary pairs.
Students studied fossils, painting ammonites in different tones of coffee. They also created a 3D ammonite similar to the artist Darrell Wakeham and explored polystyrene engraving, creating beautiful two-colour prints.
This project linked with the story
‘Pebble in my Pocket’
by Meredith Hooper.

Year 2
Painted collograph plates.
As part of Term 2’s ‘Materials project’ students learnt about how paper is made from trees and subsequently made papier-mache bowls, decorated with the cross-section of a piece of fruit.
They explored how flour can be a useful art material by making salt dough to create a decorated, 3D dragon scale for the character ‘Egg Box Dragon’.
Students also learnt how to create a collagraph plate by glueing different textured materials to card and applying paint to create wonderful dragon scale prints!
Collograph prints - dragon scales.
Inspired by the artist Daniel Mackie.
As part of Term 3's project on Antarctica, students drew animals from Antarctica, inspired by the artist Daniel Mackie . The shape of the animal is key in his designs. He keeps the outline simple so it is instantly recognisable as the creature being represented. You will notice that Daniel depicts the environment of the animal within itself!
The creature almost becomes a window to their own world.
What beautiful illustrations Year 2 have drawn, linking with the text
‘The Emperor's Egg”.
Year 1
Students were inspired by the cartoon story Traction Man. They used their understanding of Pop Art and the work of artist Roy Lichtenstein to create bold, colourful, cartoon-like images using dots. They also created their own onomatopoeia words that can be found in the story.
As part of Term 2’s project on Nature in Art’, students explored the work of Arcrimboldo, an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers and fish! Students carefully printed from fruit and vegetables, cut these shapes out and designed their own portrait.
Andy Goldsworthy inspired artworks
Students explored Nature in Art creating leaf rubbings, land art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy, fruit prints & nature wands.
